Any year in particular?
The problem with buying an old Volvo or any old (15+ years old) car is while I may have lasted forever from new, it's on borrowed time now, and objectively far less safe than a modern car.
I'd say anything without too much electronics. So probably from around 2000 or earlier. But I'm certainly no expert on this matter.
Honda. Honda/Acura engines if maintained correctly are designed to go 300k miles from what my car nut friend tells me. It is what we will be getting next. Although have had and seen a lot more old Toyotas on the road.
At minimum 1-2 years. After that it's not really a big deal. I'd probably get a 2 yr old Toyota Prius after that. I'm trying to save money and I want is little monthly payments as possible. I live in Jersey City, NJ which is 5 min away from NYC. TONS of public transportation. I may buy a bike as well.
Guy at my work who knows his cars says the R18 engine Honda had in my civic is essentially bulletproof they just got everything right with it and I’d agree ultimately it was my lack of care or maintenance that did it in. 11 years of driving and all it ever needed were brakes and tires until corrosion caught up to the suspension. I really did not look after this car and I cannot stress that enough.
Thanks. I'll delete this since it's not the proper place.
