Having some flat scrap silicone might come in handy.
In the past I've used pieces as grip mats, wraps for stiff and uncomfortable heavy bag handles... quite a few things actually. They're at the top of my scrap stack and they're all just the same few pieces from one small sandwich bag I had 5 years ago.

Good idea, thanks - it's quite a versatile material. If i'm not able to fix it, will use the bag as scrap silicone

Good suggestion. Silicone can work well for hot pads too (the kind you put hot pans on).

Yeah, throwing it out was definitely my first impulse...if I am able to fix it I don't think I'll use it for food anymore.

At times I’m concerned this sub is breeding horders. If you got some broken old trash, you’re not gonna need it. Throw it away.

If you have kids, this would be great for holding toy pieces (that are big enough to not fall out of the hole). Wash it well first, obviously. My daughter loves to put her wooden puzzle pieces in reusable bags, so I would give this to her for that purpose.

If you cannot find another use for it, and it is medical grade silicone you can burn it in a campfire. Seriously. It is safe to burn and will not release harmful gasses. Alternatively, call your local hospital and find out what they do with silicone.
Source: Scoured the internet on how to recycle a menstrual cup.
EDIT: Okay, maybe don't burn it, per u/GoldenNerd1. But yes, check with your local hospital.

Go buy some platinum cure silicone. Super clean broken item. Put some tape on the inside of the hole. Mix up silicone and pour a bit over the hole on the outside

teamglider t1_is6bqhg wrote
Hantavirus is rare but serious, and sometimes fatal. You can also get bacterial infections from mouse droppings.
I'd personally toss it, but it needs to be disinfected inside and out if you keep it (using gloves, and disinfected, not just washed) and not used for food or anything related to children. But really, throw it away, it's got mouse pee on it.

RTV Silicone from the auto department might make a good repair material. Comes in a tube like tooth paste, cures really flexible and adheres pretty good. Would make a small parts organizer or something afterwards.

Buy some clear liquid gorilla glue in a metal tube.. get some sand paper 200-400 grit and scuff 1/2 inch around the outside of the hole. Insert a piece of wax paper in the bag where the hole is.. fill the hole and smear the gorilla glue flat and overlap the hole by 1/2 and inch. Let it sit 24 hours.. peel the wax paper off and bag should be good to go. Should have a bag that is usable again.

After boiling in sanitizer* or however you’re going to clean it up, just put some potpourri in it and hide it behind some stuff on a shelf or side table and let the smell slowly waft out. A couple of quick squeezes if you want to quickly freshen up the place.
*you might not want to do this bit.

That's some soyboy shit, every bit helps and a caviwipe will take care of any bacteria on that "mouse infected" bag. Buying things to replace things that can easily be fixed and used is a sign of a weak mind.

As a hoarder trying to reform, BIFL creates a lot less clutter than fast fashion does. It’s the path from the roomful of clothes towards the capsule wardrobe. Clothes you just can’t count on and your most lived items getting discontinued is where having backups for everything will get you off track.
