Let me guess the meaning behind this artwork: there are many people cheat to win card games and king (in real life) is a character with power and everyone want to be a king. Which shows the ambition of the majority want to be king/have great power and would dare cheat to achieve it.

The expression takes it in a completely different direction for me. It shows a man who has acted with nobility all his life and how that has left him damaged. He has lived a life of sacrifice and it hasn't been easy
